An online survey was conducted with members of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey using the Bilecik Seyh Edebali University's online survey system. The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (In Turkish is TOBB) is the highest legal entity in Turkey representing the private sector and today, it has 365 members in the form of local chambers of commerce, industry, commerce and industry, maritime commerce and commodity exchanges, operating in 81 provinces and 160 districts in Turkey (TOBB, 2016). There are 181 chambers of commerce and industry, 57 chambers of commerce, 12 chambers of industry, 2 chambers of maritime commerce and 113 commodity exchanges connected to TOBB in Turkey. This study includes only 252 chambers, excluding commodity exchanges.

An online survey was conducted between March 31, 2016 and May 31, 2016. An email with the link to the online survey was sent to total of 238 chambers. Since we could not find e-mail address of 14 chambers, they are excluded from the study. During this period, a reminder e-mail was sent three times to participants who had not responded to the initial request. We received 61 completed and 72 uncompleted survey questionnaires.

Questionnaire items related to perception of benefits and barriers are adopted from Batikas & Bavel (2013) and items related to reasons for not using social media are adopted from Rhoads (2012).
